1.Improvement of Infrastructure,Health,Watsan in Manga District.
The project is a multi-sectoral intervention aiming to contribute to the development of the newly created Manga District through empowering the poor population and by strengthening their capacity to grasp existing unexploited opportunities in line with vision 2030. More specifically the project focuses on the increase to access to education,health, watsan,hygiene and strengthening the food security and economic development of the population in the target area through training activities and infrastructure improvement
The project entitled " Integrated development approach through training and infrastructure improved Education,Health, Watsan,Hygiene in Manga cluster area in Lake Victoria Region, Kenya 2010 - 2012" is being funded by INTERVITA (Italy) and being initiated by HWF.
Upon and through the completion of the project, the main beneficiaries are children (inclusive of children with special needs),their families,Mothers, Youth in particular the girls and MARPS.

2. Zuia Ukimwi,Vijana Tuwe Waangalifu:Promoting Behaivor Change Among The youth.
Structured youth groups play a major role in shaping the attitudes, opinions and most importantly the behaivor of young people.The youths of today have been born into a world where the HIV/AIDS pandemic is a harsh, unavoidable reality.By providing an environment in which the youths can be educated about HIV/AIDS,youth groups often act as a centre point for community discussion and activity; as such they can be a vital tool in controlling the epidemic and coordinating a response to it.
Health and Water Foundation under the Global Fund Program 2010 - 2012 is using peer education, sensitization of PLWHIV and Behaivor Change Communication among the youths in Nyanza Province as invaluable tools in the fight against HIV/AIDS and is establishing an enviroment where the youths living with HIV are well supported and new prevention prevented.
3. Emergency WASH response in 10 schools and communities of Central, Sericho and Merti Division of Isiolo District - Provision of latrines and WASH promotion.
The project aims at improving the lives of patoralist communities through access to safe water and sanitation facilities for 10 target populations of Isiolo Central Division, Isiolo District, using water as an entry point for reaching students and community members alike, and this by the end of 2010.Under the donor support of UNICEF,Health and Water Foundation is implementing this program to the community with the objective of raising school attendance of girls,raising the level of hygiene and sanitation of the pastoralists and improving Water Management commities in the region.
4. Nyamira Schools Water and Sanitation Project (SWASP)
In Nyamira District, Health and Water Foundation is working through Community Based Organizations, the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health to construct pit latrines, water storage tanks and hand wash facilities in the most affected primary schools. The main objective of this project is to KEEP THE GIRL CHILD AT SCHOOL and provides a clean/healthy learning environment. The girls have been found to drop out of school during onset of menstruation due to lack of the above facilities. This affects their overall performance in SMT subjects. The dropout leads to early marriages, child labor and prostitution. Health and Water Foundation aims at solving this problem by making the schools conducive to learning for both girls( especially during menstruation) and boys. We provide water storage tanks, wash rooms, latrines, sanitary towels (girls only) and hygiene training. This project is constructing pit latrines, at a ratio of 1:25 for girls and 1:30 for boys, hand wash units and 24,000 liters water storage tanks in the rural primary schools in Nyanza province. From experience, about US$35,000 will provide one primary school with the above facilities. To date HWF has successfully completed SWASP projects in over 5 primary schools including Ikobe primary School with support from Oak Foundation UK and Nyambaso Primary school with support from The Rainwater Charitable Trust Funds-USA. HWF plans to do over 50 needy primary schools and we are fundraising at www.globalgiving.com/1609.
