, a not-for-profit organization works in Kenya primarily in integrated Health, Water and Sanitation. The focus is to address the lack of access to health services, sustainable clean water and environmental sanitation in poor primary schools and poor rural and urban communities in Kenya. HWF’s programmes target primary schools environmental sanitation specifically for sexually maturing girls in order to provide support in dealing with menstruation in privacy. Health and Water Foundation works through local partnerships with Community Based Organizations to deliver effective community based water, health, capacity building and environmental programs.
This program identifies schools in rural areas without proper water and sanitation facilities, due to high demand occasioned by the free primary education, building pit latrines (1:25 for girls and 1:30 for boys). Besides the pit latrines, the program installs hand wash facilities and provides training on Participatory Hygiene and Sanitation Transformation (PHAST) & community capacity building.
The programme focuses on enhancing access to sustainable water and environmental sanitation to the poor and marginalized communities.
To date the HWF has supported 12 CBOs in Nyanza and Western to ensure that AIDS orphans in Nyanza and Western Provinces get schooling, food and shelter
